Welcome to Sidney, BC

The Latch Inn, on Harbour Road in Sidney, is steeped in history and a glamourous past. In 1925, the Lieutenant-Governor of British Columbia, Walter C. Nichol, commissioned famous architect Samuel Maclure to build him a summer home on a piece of forested property on the Saanich peninsula. The residence, completed in 1926 and coined 'Miraloma, was a brilliant confluence of the environment and artistic design.

A Beautifully Charming Sea-Side Village

The picturesque town of Sidney by the Sea is situated within the traditional territory of the W̱SÁNEĆ people on the southern tip of Vancouver Island. The community is located along the shores of the Salish Sea on the Saanich Peninsula amidst the Gulf Islands with Mount Baker standing in the distance.

A Story Behind Every Door

Even today, The Latch oozes an old-world elegance and charm. Once the playground for the upper crust, it hosted sumptuous garden parties and welcomed visits from dignitaries and royalty. Edward, the Prince of Wales, and his brother George enjoyed the classy and comfortable accommodation in a state tour of British Columbia in 1927. In the 1940s, it became known as "The Latch", reflecting that every door in the house was opened with a latch and iron key.

Charming & Unique Rooms

Rich in history, every room at The Latch is unique and full of character, each with its own distinct narrative. Rooms have been upgraded to provide the modern comforts expected from a top class hotel. Come experience the old world seaside charm of The Latch Inn in Sidney.

"What a great experience!"
Please ignore all older reviews... the new owners took over June 1st 2020. They totally revamped the place, and did a great job. Stylish, but lots of respect for the cool heritage features all over the Inn. The breakfast was one of the best I've ever had in a B&B - want to go back just for the breakfast. We came by bicycle, about 20 min. ride from Swartz Bay - great "secret" getaway from Vancouver.

"The Fishers"

"Unique Lodging
Set in a scenic cove, operated by 3 polite, accommodating proprietors - David, Dominic, & Michael - The Latch Inn is a charmer.
My wife, dog, & I stayed 5 nights. Our room - The Miraloma Suite - was ambient, clean, & spacious; the king bed very comfortable.
The word awesome can be overstated but, without exaggeration, that's what the breakfasts were.
Highly recommended.
We will be back.

"The Best Boutique Inn Experience"
A great find, disregard all the old negative reviews, The Latch has new hospitality experienced owners that have made this one of the best boutique inns on the island. Great location next to the marina, breakfast on the patio was simply the best, a bar service in the afternoon, large rooms with super comfortable beds, an Inn with a wonderful history, and with management that are true hosts. A+++
