The Shaw Centre for the Salish Sea is a unique, non-profit aquarium and interactive learning center. Through programs, events, and lecture series, the Centre's member educate and inform visitors about the Salish Sea bio-region and its various ecosystems. Events include Microscope Mondays, Tot Tuesdays, and Sea-Shirt Sundays.

Enjoy a tropical atmosphere at Victoria Butterfly Gardens. This nature center incorporates a controlled climate that mimics the characteristics of a tropical rain forest. The center features more than 70 species of butterflies and moths in a 1200 sq ft garden. While you're there, be sure to visit the Insectarium, which showcases a variety of insects and invertebrates from around the globe.

BOOK YOUR TRIP TO BEAUTIFUL SIDNEY SPIT Sidney Spit, at the north end of Sidney Island, is five kilometres (by sea) from Sidney on Vancouver Island and is part of Gulf Islands National Park Reserve. The spit is a sandy, narrow strip of land that stretches into the sea—a beautiful spot to sunbathe or walk along thousands of metres of beach. Located on the edge of the Pacific flyway, Sidney Spit’s tidal flats and salt marshes are often overflowing with shorebirds during the bird migrations of spring and fall.

Moorage is available annually, monthly and nightly for boats up to 200 feet plus in the marina’s 500 open and covered berths. Haul-outs are available with 90 spaces for dryland storage and maintenance.

A whale watching tour along Vancouver Island is an experience you won't soon forget. Along our east coast, tours are available from Victoria to Port Hardy. The Sydney area, in the middle of the Gulf Islands, is a particularly great location for whale watching. Three Orca pods populate the Sydney coastline. And Minke and humpback whales can also be spotted, at various times during the year.
